Pavilion of Lebanon @ Venice Biennale 2011
This website documents the Pavilion of Lebanon at the Venice Art Biennale in 2011.
This is the second time Lebanon participates in this international art event. The first time was in 2007.
About the Venice Art Biennale in 2011 :
The 54th International Art Exhibition will take place in Venice from June, 4th to November, 27th 2011 at the Giardini and at the Arsenale (preview: June 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2011), as well as in various venues the city.
This year's biennale is directed by Bice Curiger.
The President of La Biennale di Venezia, Paolo Baratta, accompanied by the Director of the 54th International Art Exhibition, Bice Curiger, met on October 20th, 2010 the representatives of the participating countries, which for the very first time will include Govern d’Andorra, Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Bahrain, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Republic of Rwanda, as well as Congo and India, which last participated respectively in 1968 and 1980.
About the Venice Art Biennale in general :
The Venice Biennale has for over a century been one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Since its foundation in 1895, it has been in the avant-garde, promoting new artistic trends and organising international events in the contemporary arts in accordance with a multi-disciplinary model which characterises its unique nature. The category of the international art exhibition, visual art category of Venice Biennale is known for its longest history, taking a leading role in new flows and trends of art. The exhibition venues are the Italian Pavilion and the national pavilions at the Giardini, as well as the Corderie, the Artiglierie and other venues at the Arsenale. Countries that do not own a pavilion and institutions that organise collateral events are exhibited in other venues in Venice.
